NHB 2012-13 Season Will Open With Open House Aug. 25
Drs.Christine and Joe Carucci have announced the opening of our 2012-13 season for Saturday, Aug. 25. The day will begin with rehearsal at 10 a.m. followed by an informal “performance” and open house at 11 a.m. All possible new members and other interested folks are cordially invited to attend. Events will be held at our regular venue, the School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA), behind Lafayette High School, 451 Reed Lane, Lexington.
The New Horizons Concert Band, now beginning its sixth year, has grown from 9 to more than 40 members this past season. The New Horizons Jazz Band, directed by Dr. Joe Carucci, is beginning its second year, according to Dr. David Sogin, director of music education at the University of Kentucky School of Music, which sponsors the New Horizons Music Program.
“The New Horizons music concept, founded 20 years ago at the University of Rochester, NY, Eastman School of Music, has become a popular performing ensemble for amateur adult musicians to renew their interest in band music,” Sogin said. “Our members range in age from their early 50s to late 80s. No musical experience is required, and beginners are welcome.”
Christine and Joe said normal rehearsals (with new music) will resume on Saturday, Sept. 8. The rehearsal schedule and times will be changed slightly for the fall semester. The new schedule for Saturday rehearsals will be:
10:00-11:30: Concert Band Rehearsal
11:30-11:45: Break/social for all members (concert, jazz band, and new “beginning” members)
11:45-12:45: Jazz Band rehearsal and Beginner rehearsal
The new schedule allows another outlet for beginners (11:45-12:45) and allows Joe to continue rehearsing the jazz band. He has taken a new position in Tennessee and will be back on weekends to work with New Horizons.
We’re all looking forward to another great season of music making!
